NEW RECYCLING FACILITIES FOR MARSHFIELD VILLAGE
Local campaigners are celebrating after new plastic bottle recycling banks were installed at Marshfield Community Centre in Marshfield, South Gloucestershire.
The Conservative administration on South Gloucestershire Council is funding a significant expansion of plastic bottle recycling sites across the district. The new facilities in the village of Marshfield are part of this phased expansion.
The council has already announced its aim to increase the district’s household waste recycling levels from the 39% inherited from the previous administration to 50% - 10 years ahead of the Government’s target.
Local councillor, Sandra Grant (Boyd Valley, Conservative), was delighted with the new facilities. She said:
“The Marshfield residents I have spoken to are really pleased that the village now has these new recycling facilities. It makes life a lot easier, especially for families who have problems with capacity in their black bins.”
Fellow local campaigner and prospective Conservative MP for the new Thornbury and Yate constituency, Matthew Riddle commented:
“We always need to be looking at ways to make going ‘green’ a lot easier for households and I will keep working with the council to improve recycling facilities across the district, especially in rural areas where the nearest facilities are usually quite a distance away.”
Heather Goddard, Executive Member for Communities, said:
“We are now collecting 500 tonnes of plastic per year and this is steadily improving as we increase our plastic bottle recycling banks – a move which is proving very popular with our residents. Since our promotion of Tetrapak banks in the June edition of South Gloucestershire News their use has taken off and we are having to increase the frequency of emptying them. Thank you to all our residents who are using our banks and doing their bit for the environment.”
