X27 Bus Service
Matthew welcomes free X27 bus tickets
Local campaigner, Matthew Riddle, has welcomed the decision by South Gloucestershire Council to issue a thousand free tickets to ride the X27 bus.
A council-funded 6 month extension of the X27 bus service has been running since 10 May in order to retain an important bus link between Yate and Bristol via Iron Acton.
Over a thousand free tickets are currently being sent out to local households living along the route of the X27 as part of the Council’s high profile ‘Use It’ campaign.
The tickets are being sent out after residents filled in a survey about their travel patterns.
The deal to extend the X27 was brokered by Matthew Riddle, the prospective Conservative MP for Thornbury and Yate, and follows First Group’s decision to cut the service.
Matthew Riddle, who is also a South Gloucestershire Councillor, comments:
“I welcome the latest part of the council’s pro-active use it campaign.
Providing these free tickets is a positive way to increase the usage of the X27 service, particularly amongst those residents who may never have considered taking the X27 bus before. I hope they go on to support the service in the longer term.
Doing as much as we can to build up bus patronage makes it easier to secure a long-term solution, which is of concern to a great number of local residents who depend on the service.”
