Fighting the overdevelopment of Charfield

South Gloucestershire Council have published their new ‘Local Housing Plan’, which has identified a number of sites in South Gloucestershire that they feel would be suitable for housing. 775 of these houses are proposed in Charfield. Significantly increasing the number of houses in Charfield would dramatically increase pressure on schools, health services and overwhelm our road network.

The proposals would create more congestion and raise issues about road safety and the impact on local pollution levels. Charfield is an historic village, which does not have the infrastructure to support such largescale development. I am calling on Liberal Democrat run South Gloucestershire Council to reconsider their plans.

For nearby villages such as Wickwar and Tytherington, the Council have said: “It is not considered appropriate that these places should feature new allocations as they have delivered a proportionate number of homes through the speculative planning application process while the level of local services and facilities have not kept pace.” Why is Charfield different?

We need your views on the plans to increase the number of houses in Charfield so we can demonstrate the community’s views clearly to decision makers at the Council. If you can fill in the 60-second survey below, sharing your thoughts, we can fight these proposals to increase the size of Charfield together as a community.
