Being a Conservative councillor is a uniquely rewarding experience. It gives you the opportunity to help your local community whilst also being part of a team providing valuable and appreciated services for local residents. 19/5/2010 - Matthew Riddle and your local Conservatives would like to thank all of you who worked so hard during the General Election campaign. In one of the safest Lib Dem seats in the country, we reduced their majority from 11,000 to 7,000. Together we increased the Conservative vote from 14,500 to nearly 18,000 which helped David Cameron and the party nationally in the total number of votes polled across the country.
Turnout was also very high - 75.2% across the area, with the biggest turnouts in the Severn Ward - We should be proud.
Obviously, we are disappointed that we did not win here THIS TIME! It is very pleasing that in the other two new South Glocestershire seats we gained Kingswood from Labour and took the new Filton and Bradley Stoke seat. We wish Chris Skidmore and Jack Lopresti well as they enter the new Parliament.
Matthew will continue to work hard as an Executive Conservative Councillor on South Gloucestershire Council. Please contact Matthew or your local Conservative office with any issue that we may be able to help you with. Our aim is to continue to campaign and work hard on the issues that are important and matter to all of us.
